I haven't written anything in a while, so firstly I'd like to say a massive thanks to everyone who has supported Vegetropolis throughout the Covid 19 crisis that has enveloped the world, some of the new customers I gained during Lockdown have continued to order, although not all as some have no doubt ventured back to the supermarkets. Although I do chat with some customers at the prescribed double arms length, I've generally just dropped boxes on doorsteps and not seen anyone much, I was also mindful to put a hold on cash payments due to the demand for people to cooperate with standing apart to potentially arrest the spread of the virus, I may at some point reinstate cash payments, although I'm not sure when.
Thanks also to customers for returning used boxes for reuse, I have tried, in line with advice, to keep the empty returned boxes seperate from those being delivered & not to use returned boxes for other customers within 24 hours. Whilst I am on the subject of boxes can I respectfully ask that anyone who has cats or dogs please perhaps keep the boxes in a binbag whilst holding them for return as some boxes I get back regularly smell of cat urine & have to be thrown away, also other customers may have allergies, so cat or dog hairs in boxes are not desirable. Sorry to have to say this as I really appreciate the return of boxes. As a solution you may wish to give me x2 Bag for Life type bags that can have your name on in indelible marker and we can rotate them. this is working ewell with several customers already.
The roads are now pretty much back to what they previously where traffic wise, I will though never forget the experience of driving around the empty roads during Lockdown. My visits to Herefordshire down the virtually empty M5 where somewhat incredible, and going into the countryside, I felt uniquely lucky to be there experiencing the unique trafficless calm evoking a time of many years past, whilst everyone back home in the city was confined to their homes, debarred from travelling.
It seems that folks are now going on holidays, many of my customers who have standing orders set up for regular weekly boxes have put payments on hold for a while. Orders have fallen generally, so it seems a good time for me to have some time off too, everybody needs a holiday! To that end I'll be closing the shop for a week returning to business from the 17th August.
